TAX declaration - Hungary
The deadline for submitting the annual tax return in Hungary is May 20 of the year following the tax year.
If a taxpayer needs an official income certificate before this deadline, they may finalize and submit their tax return earlier.
The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) prepares the draft tax returns by March 15.
From this date onward, taxpayers have the opportunity to review and accept the draft prepared by NAV.
Options for Receiving the Draft Tax Return:
1. Via the eSZJA portal (https://eszja.nav.gov.hu):
Taxpayers can view, modify, and approve the draft tax return prepared by the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) by logging in with their Client Gateway (Ügyfélkapu) account.
For individuals without electronic access (i.e., without Client Gateway registration, electronic ID card, telephone identification, or facial recognition identification) can choose from several options to request the postal delivery of their draft tax return:
2. By SMS to the phone number +36 30 344 4304
(The SMS must include the tax identification number and the date of birth in the following format: SZJA<space>tax ID number<space>YYYYMMDD).
3. Via the online form available on the NAV website.
4. By letter sent to NAV.
5. By submitting the BEVTERVK form (the official request form for the draft).
6. By phone via the NAV Info Line at 1819.
7. In person at any NAV customer service office.
Options for Accepting the Draft Tax Return / Completing the Tax Return:
1. Electronically: By accessing the eSZJA portal at https://eszja.nav.gov.hu.
2. By Mail: By signing and returning the Draft Tax Return received by post.
3. In Person: By visiting any NAV customer service office.
