What is the Ügyfélkapu?

The Ügyfélkapu ("Client Gateway") is Hungary’s official electronic identification and administration portal, allowing individuals to securely manage their official matters online. It is available primarily for Hungarian citizens, but under certain conditions, foreign nationals can also register.

What can it be used for?

  • Filing tax returns (through the National Tax and Customs Administration – NAV).
  • Managing social security (health insurance) matters.
  • Making appointments at the offices of local governments.
  • Handling driver’s license and vehicle-related administration.
  • Receiving official notifications electronically.
  • Accessing services related to family benefits, education, and social services.
  • If you have a company in Hungary you can also access the Company Gateway, Cégkapu in Hungarian, via your Client Gateway.

Who can register?

Any individual—regardless of nationality—can create an Ügyfélkapu account. A permanent Hungarian address is not a strict requirement. Foreign nationals residing abroad or temporarily in Hungary can register, provided they have the necessary identification documents. While a Hungarian address is not mandatory, having one may provide access to additional services.

You can register in person at:

  • Any Kormányablak (Government Window) office in Hungary
  • Hungarian embassies or consulates abroad


After registration, users receive login credentials that allow them to access a wide range of e-government services.
