Hungary is a member of the European Union, as well as it is part of the Schengen Treaty;
Nationals of the EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA (EEA) can stay and work in Hungary after having registered with the relevant Hungarian authorities;
Processing time to be expected
EEA nationals can start working right after having entered Hungary, but mandatory arrangements must be done as soon as possible, as their stay and work without labor and immigration formalities is limited to 90 days;
Validity of permits/registrations
The registration of EEA nationals does not expire and need no extension
Non-EEA national (a.k.a. Third Country Nationals) need different permits and registrations for being able to legally work and stay in Hungary;
Processing time to be expected
Non-EEA nationals cannot start working after having arrived in Hungary.
Applications for NO-VISA NATIONALS will be submitted in Hungary after having entered the country.
Applications for VISA NATIONALS must be submitted at the Hungarian Consulate of the applicants’ home country.
The Hungarian authorities have 70 days by law to process applications.
Validity of permits/registrations
The permit and registration of non-EEA nationals can be issued with a validity of one to three years, dependent on supporting documents and possibly other factors
